Prerequisites in detail

Candidates who apply must have a:

  • ➢ Level 6 Degree and 3 years’ work experience
    Preference is given to applicants having:
    Level 6 Degree in a discipline related to the Study Programme; and
    A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in management within the sector covered by the Study Programme.OR
  • Level 5 Diploma or Higher Diploma and 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory or managerial role.

  • The target group can be extended to groups such as: doctors, professionals allied to medicine for example senior physiotherapists, paramedics as well as general managers without clinical qualifications but working in the healthcare industry.

What are the course objectives and benefits?

By the end of the training programme, participants should be able to:

  • Critically reflect on and appraise the utility of management and leadership theory in the development and functioning of healthcare systems
  • Analyse healthcare systems in global and local context in relation to financial flows within
    health systems
  • Understand and evaluate the importance of Managing Change in Healthcare at different levels
    in context of change management and implementation theory;
  • Critically analyse the functions and processes of healthcare management, and how healthcare
    services are organised, delivered, and evaluated
  • Critically analyse and assess the value of Healthcare Management functions in both private
    and public sector in relation to management and health systems theories.

Dissertation related question?

The dissertation is a compulsory element of the MSc in Healthcare Management.

The aim of it is to produce an original piece of research work on a clearly defined topic. Additionally, it would enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding, capabilities and attitudes in the context of the programme of study.
