Prerequisites in detail

Candidates who apply must have a:

➢ Level 6 Degree and 3 years’ work experience

Preference is given to applicants having aLevel 6 Degree in a discipline related to the Study Programme; and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in management within the sector covered by the Study Programme.

OR

➢ Level 5 Diploma or Higher Diploma and 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory or managerial role.

Course Details

Who is this course for?

  • This course is targeted at management professionals with supervisory and/or middle management experience such as: operations manager/coordinator, financial manager, supply chain manager, Shop floor manager/supervisor, marketing and sales manager, and services manager/supervisor.
  • The target group can be extended to groups such as: retail managers/supervisor, transport manager, maintenance manager, and marketing manager.
  • The target group focuses primarily on people already employed within supervisory and managerial level who wish to have a more thorough background in the subject in order to progress further in their career.
  • In addition to employees within universities and other government departments where managerial skills gained can be applied at the workplace.

What are the course objectives and benefits?

By the end of the training programme, participants should be able to:

  • Criticaly reflect on and appraise the utility of management , its functions and leadership theory in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Analyse management functions in global and local context in relation to operations management within the organisation.

  • Evaluate the importance of managing change in the fast-paced business world at different management levels in the context of change management and implementation theory

  • Apply an in-depth knowledge and understanding ofmanageme nt theories informed by current scholarship and research
  • Critically assess current issues and developments in the subject of management in relation to change management theories
  • Critically interpret and apply methodologies for evaluating, analysing and appraising organisational practice
  • Critcally analyse and apply leadership, research and management theories to practice
  • Analyse, interpret and assess the value of evidence in scholarship and research related to organisations, leadership, strategy, finance and operations to inform problem solving
  • Evaluate and apply subject specific knowledge of the organisational environment including leadership, planning & marketing, innovation, diversity, project management, and finance
  • Critically examine the development of the body of knowledge that relates to the globalisation and internationalisation of industries
  • Develop / design and implement an independent postgraduate research project that integrates relevant literature and appropriate methodologies with the purpose of addressing specific issues
  • Critically evaluate the forces that lie behind the demand function for high performance
  • Develop a set of methodologies to identify and develop opportunities for revenue optimization in different business context

Dissertation related question?

The dissertation is a compulsory element of the M.Sc. in General Management.

The aim of it is to produce an original piece of research work on a clearly defined topic. Additionally, it would enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding, capabilities and attitudes in the context of the programme of study.
